CHANGE IN CALENDAR
Before 1752 in England and Wales the year began on 25 March (Lady Day). From 1752 the year commenced on January following the Gregorian calendar. This is important because dates given in Parish Registers between the dates can be confusing. Otherwise a date of birth can be before a baptism.
